Lady Mocs in Kentucky for Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is in Lexington, Ky., this weekend at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational at University Golf Club.  The 14-team field tees on Friday morning, Sept. 25, and the event ends 54 holes later on Sunday.

The Lady Mocs are coming off an impressive third-place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Primm, Nev.  UTC fell two strokes shy of champion Pepperdine and one behind Cal.  The ladies did topple 2009 NCAA Finalists Ohio State, Oklahoma State and UC Irvine.  It marked the third time this season the Lady Mocs beat a top 10 team from 2008-09 (Duke, North Carolina, Oklahoma State).

Junior Christine Wolf used a hot putter to finish in a tie for third with a career-best total of 216 (E).  Junior Emma de Groot and sophomore Maria Salinas tied for 11th at 221 (+5), while Maria Juliana Loza tied for 26th at 225 (+9).  Senior Kayla Stewart closed at 238 to tie for 66th.

"It is important to keep improving," said Colette Murray, who is in her third year as the Lady Mocs head coach.  "We can't settle and think we've done anything just yet.  We need to continue to improve from week to week."

The Lady Mocs will tee off of hole No. 1 beginning at 101:10 a.m., on Friday with Wolf followed by Stewart, Loza, de Groot and Salinas.  Chattanooga is paired with Florida State and Miami (Fla.).

WHO:  Maria Salinas.  In 90 competitive holes through two events, the sophomore from Lima, Peru has not scored higher than a bogey and she has played par or better on 73 of those holes, 81.1 percent.

WHAT:  Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational - 54 holes (18 per day)

WHEN:  Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27

WHERE:  University Golf Club; Lexington, Ky.  Par 72, 6,168 yards.  There is no defending champion as the event was not played last year.  Live scoring at Golfstat.com or through GoMocs.com.

HOW:  The Lady Mocs got better each round in Nevada shooting 296 (+8) to open and following with 294 (+6) and 293 (+5) in the subsequent rounds.  Sophomore Maju Loza got into the act well opening with a 76 (+4) and following with 75 (+3) and 74 (+2).  The Lady Mocs have shot better in every round since opening the season in Daytona Beach with a 302 (300-296-294-293).
