Head Coach Wes Moore
On winning by double-figures:
"We still did not have a 20-point win though. The all elusive 20-point this year. I thought that the press got us some, but when this team can play with 14 assists and 13 turnovers against full-court press every time it is a deadball or made bucket, I am pretty pleased. I thought our kids handled it decently. In the first half, we actually made them pay some for pressing. In the second half, we fell a little bit in love with the three. Coaches are fickle. When it is going in, we love the three. When its not, lets pound it inside, but we needed some touches. Obviously, Michelle Davis stepped up with Shanara [Hollinquest] in foul trouble. Michelle did an unbelievable job on the boards and scoring. We had a lot of people help. Jenaya [Wade-Fray] had a double-double, I believe. Shanara had a double-double inspite of seeing double and triple teams. We have a lot of people right now that are contributing and that is good."
On Michelle Davis having a good game:
"I have seen it in flashes. She had a great game at Wofford and hit four threes. She went down on the block and scored on the turnaround a couple times in the second half. Again, she is very capable of doing those things and being a great player. With most freshmen, you are looking for consistency and hopefully that will continue to come."
On dealing with the press with a big lead and having numbers to score, but really you need to hold onto the ball for the 25 second clock:
"Your right that is what is tough about because you want to burn them. If you gamble and have everybody up there, you want to make them pay for it. It becomes an issue of time management and should back it out and ease the clock. Good point."
On how the team responds after halftime:
"Most of the time at halftime, we just talk about some things that are going on. Obviously, [Ali] Ford was killing us. It upsets me that we let one player dominate the scoring for the other team. Jenaya did a great job on her for the most part. She is an unbelievable three-point shooter and she went 1-for-9 tonight. Jenaya did a great job, but when you take that way, you are going to also give up some penetration. We did not have very good help in rotation. There are still that we are not doing as well as we should, but at the same time this is a team that beat us earlier in the year. It is nice to extract a little bit of revenge and get a win."
On getting the ball consistently to Michelle Davis:
"To start the second half, we fell in love with the three-point shot. We were coming down and shooting some that were pretty deep early in the shot clock. Those were shots that you could get with five seconds left on the shot clock, so lets try and see if we can get something better. Jenaya is a great three point shooter. She is also great at attacking and getting to the foul line."
On why there were so many rebounds:
"We missed some easy looks and they did too. Maybe that's because the defense was putting a little bit of a hand in the face. I'm proud of the way we rebounded for the most part. Much better effort there. I believe rebounding is the most important part of the game, so if we can control that, it definitely helps our chances."
On momentum going forward:
"I like getting in the routine. Now that we're in the conference schedule we're getting into a little bit of a routine. Our kids are used to that and tomorrow we'll try to focus mostly on UNCG. They are very athletic and that can be very scary if they start knocking down shots. They can put the pressure on you defensively and take it to the rim. We've got to do a better job of transition [defense] than we did tonight. We work on it almost every day but we've got to get better at it."
Freshman Michelle Davis
On getting 19 rebounds:
"I was in the right spot at the right time."
On breaking the press:
"We just tried to get a layup, and take advantage of the mismatch."
On trying to get more rebounds"
"No, I just played and had fun. I didn't know I had that many."
Senior Shanara Hollinquest
On getting off to fast start in the second half:
"It was important for the team and me. As long as my teammates are knocking down shots, I am happy."
On getting an easy win:
"It was more relaxing, but Coach [Moore] still didn't sit down like he said he would."
On preparing for the game:
"We watched film and saw how we played the last time against them. We made a pack to go out there and win big, which we did."
On having more confidence:
"Yeah, Coach [Moore] asked us about that the other day, and everybody in there pretty much had confidence."
