Chattanooga Heads to Wilmington for the Landfall Tradition

WHO: Yushira Budhram. The true freshman is -3 over her last 22 holes. She shot her first collegiate par or better round with a 72 (E) in the final round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Oct. 10.
WHAT: The Landfall Tradition - 54 holes (18 per day). This is the first appearance in the event for UTC.

HOW: Country Club of Landfall was the host site of the 2010 NCAA Women's Golf Championship. Eight of the teams in this event played in the finals last spring.

Britt leads the Mocs off No. 10 at 10:10 a.m., followed by Budhram (10:20), Loza (10:30), Wolf (10:40) and de Groot (10:50). UTC is paired with Northwestern and N.C. State.

NOTES:
- 16 of the 18 teams in this year's Landfall Tradition field - Mocs included - competed in NCAA Regionals last year with eight that moved forward to the finals.
- Overall it was a good showing at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship. The Mocs shot 289 (+1) on the final day which is the lowest team score since firing five-under par in the final round to run away with the 2009 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational title.
- UTC claimed big wins over SoCon rivals at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship. The Mocs topped Furman by 12 shots and UNC Greensboro by 41.
- Chattanooga carded 20 birdies on the par 5 holes for a total of -16 through three rounds, -13 on counting scores. Freshman Jordan Britt shot -5 on the par fives with six of her eight tourney birdies coming on those holes.
- Senior Emma de Groot leads UTC in birdies this year with 19 through four rounds. She has counted in 104 of 105 career team rounds. Her lone non-counting round (79) came on Oct. 11, 2008 in the second round at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. She has 66 straight counters.
- de Groot is a highly-decorated Moc. She has earned All-SoCon honors in each of her three seasons and narrowly missed All-American mention in 2009-10 ranking No. 51 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The top 50 are named All-American. She was No. 38 in the Golfstat rankings. She is on Golf World's Players to Watch list.
- Senior Christine Wolf tied for her career low round firing a two-under par 70 at the Mercedes-Benz. It was the lowest final round score of her career and was the fourth 70 in her three-plus years. The last time she shot 70 was the second round of the 2010 NCAA East Regional at Ironwood Country Club (Greenville, N.C.). That set the UTC individual record through 36 holes at two-under par 142 at the 2010 NCAA East Regional. She currently leads the squad in pars with 92 and has the fewest bogeys with 19.
- Junior Maria Juliana Loza tied her career low with a 69 (-3) in the second round in Knoxville. Loza also set a new 54-hole mark at 218 (+2) besting the 219 she shot at the 2009 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational. Her previous 69 came in the same event, only a year later. She has counted in 40 consecutive rounds.
- Freshman Yushira Buhdram played her best round for the Mocs in her last at Holston Hills. Her level par 72 is her first collegiate par or better round and featured two birdies and 14 pars. She started the fine play birdieing three of her final four holes in the second rounds salvaging a counting 79 after a rough start. She is -3 through her last 22 holes.
- Britt carded five birdies in the opening round of the Mercedes-Benz which ties Wolf for most birdies in a round this season. Wolf scored her five in the final round.
- This is the fourth year of Mocs golf since Colette Murray re-started the program in 2007-08 after it was dis-continued in the mid-1980s. In the previous three seasons, Chattanooga has won seven team titles and had six medalist winners. UTC has been a part of NCAA Regionals all three years with an individual (de Groot) qualifying as an individual the first season, and the team the last two. In 2009, the Mocs advanced to the NCAA Finals. UTC won its first Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship in 2010.
- With the fourth year, you get seniors. The first recruiting class to go through the program from freshman to graduation is upon us. de Groot and Christine Wolf are the first such seniors for the Mocs.
- Chattanooga's first event, the Labor Day Shootout, was shortened to 27 holes. Since the standings were decided by 27 holes, and the scoring averages are not computed per hole, the event is not included in the Mocs' averages for 2010-11. It was played at the famed TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course. For the record, all five Mocs, and Murray in the practice round, found dry land on each tee shot on the infamous No. 17 island green.
