WILMINGTON, N.C. --- True freshman Jordan Britt (Dayton, Tenn.) tied for the low round of the day firing a three-under par 69 on a high scoring day at the Landfall Tradition on the Country Club of Landfall. Chattanooga's 299 was just three shots off the low team round as the Mocs earned a top 10 finish in the prestigious event.
"I'm proud of the way we finished," said head coach Colette Murray. "My challenge is to make sure we start the way we finish. Until we find a way to do that, we're not going to be the team I know we can be. We need to start better beginning with Furman next week."
Britt carded six birdies on the day which is not only her season high, but the most by a UTC golfer this season. Her 69 vaulted her into a tied for 11th as she bested 17 top 100 golfers including two top 20, one top 10. She ended up at six-over par 222.
"Jordan is going to be a special player," added Murray. "She has so much potential and is beginning to realize that. What a great round she put together today."
Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) ended up with a top 25 against the elite field. Wolf shot 225 and has finished in the top 25 of all four events this year.
Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) tied for 40th at 230. Emma de Groot's (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) 235 placed her tied for 63rd, while Yushira Budhram (Johannesburg, South Africa) ended up 79th at 246. All five Mocs either improved or maintained their position over the final 18 holes.
No. 5 UCLA won the team title by five strokes at 880 over No. 13 North Carolina at 885. Texas was third with an 890.
Chattanooga wound up 10th overall at 911. The Mocs were three behind Ohio State's 908. The Mocs triumphed over No. 18 South Carolina by eight and No. 23 Oklahoma State by 13. UTC beat three other programs in the top 50.
The Mocs' final round 299 was one of the best of the day ranking fifth. The 299 beat the likes of No. 5 UCLA by 1, No. 6 Duke by 17, No. 13 North Carolina by six, No. 14 Michigan State by six, No. 15 Wake Forest by three, No. 18 South Carolina by 14 and No. 23 Oklahoma State by 10.
Brittany Altomare (Virginia) and Tiffany Lua (UCLA) tied for medalist honors at 214 (-2). Lindy Duncan (Duke) and Casey Grice (UNC) tied for third with even-par scores of 216.
Chattanooga ends the fall portion of the schedule next weekend at the Paladin Invitational Oct. 29-31. The event is played in Greenville, S.C., at the Furman University Golf Course.
