Mocs Return to the Course Friday in Knoxville

WHO: Jordan Britt. The true freshman played her best to date with a 75 (+3) in the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge. She had a birdie and 14 pars for the day.
WHAT: Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship - 54 holes (18 per day). This is the third straight appearance in the event for UTC.

HOW: Holston Hills has hosted a number of championship events including US Women's Mid-Amateur Championship (2004), Southern Amateur Championship (1952, 1961, 1983, 1995), NCAA Championship (1955, 1965), Tennessee State Amateur Championship (1931, 1940, 1954, 1964, 1974, 1987, 1994, 2003), Tennessee PGA Championship (1980, 2007), Tennessee State Open (1950, 1958, 1960) and Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship (1931, 1947, 1962, 1972, 1984)

NOTES:
- This year's Mercedes-Benz Championship is moving to Holsotn Hills Country Club. This year's field has 15 teams - 11, including the Mocs, which competed in NCAA Regionals in 2010. Four of the 15 played in the 2010 NCAA Championship.
- UTC finished eighth a year ago at the Mercedes-Benz Championship played at Fox Den Country Club. The Mocs shot 907 and topped eight teams that went on to NCAA Regionals and two - LSU and Tulane - that went on to the 2010 finals.
- Senior Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) leads UTC in birdies this year with eight through four rounds. She has counted in 100 of 101 career team rounds. Her lone non-counting round (79) came on Oct. 11, 2008 in the second round at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. She has counted in 63 straight rounds.
- de Groot is a highly-decorated Moc. She has earned All-SoCon honors in each of her three seasons and narrowly missed All-American mention in 2009-10 ranking No. 51 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The top 50 are named All-American. She was No. 38 in the Golfstat rankings. She is on Golf World's Players to Watch list.
- Senior Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) has been a steady factor throughout her career as well. She was All-SoCon as a freshman in 2008. She holds the Mocs only record that de Groot doesn't. That is individual score through 36 holes at two-under par 142 at the 2010 NCAA East Regional. She currently leads the squad in pars with 58.
- Junior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was named to the All-SoCon team in 2010 after All-Freshman in 2009. She is another steady player who was spectacular in helping lead the Mocs to their first SoCon title in 2010. She came in second over the 27 holes at the Labor Day Shootout at five-over par on the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course. She has counted in 37 consecutive rounds.
- Local product Jordan Britt (Dayton, Tenn./Signal Mountain H.S.) begins her freshman season coming off a great summer. The highlight was her semifinal appearance at the Tennessee Women's Amateur where she lost to Virginia's All-American Calle Nielson in 20 holes. Her best round to date was her last, a 75 (+3) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, scoring par or better on 15 of her 18 holes.
- South African Yushira Buhdram (Johannesburg, South Africa) is the other of the heralded two newcomers. She had a strong junior career playing internationally bringing a wealth of experience to the Mocs' squad.
- This is the fourth year of Mocs golf since Colette Murray re-started the program in 2007-08 after it was dis-continued in the mid-1980s. In the previous three seasons, Chattanooga has won seven team titles and had six medalist winners. UTC has been a part of NCAA Regionals all three years with an individual (de Groot) qualifying as an individual the first season, and the team the last two. In 2009, the Mocs advanced to the NCAA Finals. UTC won its first Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship in 2010.
- With the fourth year, you get seniors. The first recruiting class to go through the program from freshman to graduation is upon us. de Groot and Christine Wolf are the first such seniors for the Mocs.
- Chattanooga's first event, the Labor Day Shootout, was shortened to 27 holes. Since the standings were decided by 27 holes, and the scoring averages are not computed per hole, the event is not included in the Mocs' averages for 2010-11. It was played at the famed TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course. For the record, all five Mocs, and Murray in the practice round, found dry land on each tee shot on the infamous No. 17 island green.
