Appalachian State  at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena - Chattanooga, Tenn.
Feb. 13, 2010

Chattanooga Head Coach Wes Moore

On the ending of the game:
"Sometimes you just pray really hard, and things just work out. We are not sure what happened there. Just thankful."

On Appalachian State's defense:
"I don't know. We struggled up there to shoot the ball. Got to give them a lot of credit. Their scheme was very good. With them playing that soft 2-2-1 press, and make you eat time. Then when you get in the half court they are in a zone, and you don't have a lot of time to attack it. They gave us some trouble, and that is definitely something we are going to have to work on the next couple of weeks getting ready for the conference tournament for attacking it."

On Shanara Hollinquest's free throw shooting:
"I don't know. Just be thankful. If I had the choice I would take them down the stretch. She is a winner. When it is down the stretch you want the ball in her hands, at the foul line. She finds a way to get it done."

On rebounding struggles:
"They killed us on the offensive boards. I don't know what happened, a few weeks ago we were leading the conference by a large margin. I think we were averaging about nine more boards than our opponents. For whatever reason that has swung in the other direction. We are definitely going to spend more time on box outs. For me, the most important part of the game, you can hold them to one shot and you yourself get second or third shot a possession. That makes a big difference when you have an off shooting night. We got to get that fix quickly."

On the top half of the Southern Conference:
"There is so much parody. I think it is a combination. Give Appalachian State credit, they came in here and did a great job. They definitely came in with more energy than us. This team has been tough on me, because I am used to high energy and I am not use to coach effort. With about 10 minutes left, all I could do was just blow a gasket out there and get their attention. But I shouldn't have to do that. That should come from with in.

On the final 10 minutes:
"I think we made them take some tougher shots. Erin Helton has been out for a while. She struggled offensively, and you could tell that she was very rusty. Defensively, she was able to do a good job on and Ashley Dewitt. Kept her pushed out a little bit, make her try to score over her, and keep her off the boards because we didn't have an answer for her. I should have gone to the offense-defense substitution a little earlier. Get Michelle Davis or Megan Rollins in there on offense and had Erin go back in on defense. She did a nice job. Kylie Lambert had four big threes. It is great to see her play the way I think she is capable of playing. Kayla Christopher, don't want to take her for granite, hitting for as well. Jenya Wade-Fray had a tough day. She could have hung her head and said this isn't my day, but I thought she made a big play down the stretch when she got that steal and went in for the layup. We got a lot of people that can contribute, and just got to keep them on board."

On the Lady Mocs controlling their own destiny:
"Yeah we do, and we have talked about that. We have to make sure we understand the urgency involved. Don't take for granite that you are on your home court. That doesn't guaranty you anything. We have Davidson coming in here Monday night. They are a very, very big team.  They can put a lineup out there that is tough to matchup with. They always play hard, and it is going to be a big game Monday night. Let me say, the fans were awesome. Over 3,000 people here today. Thank you if you showed up."

Senior Shanara Hollinquest

How important was it to come back and win?:
"It was a good win. It was a good comeback and it will help us down the stretch."

How tough is the top of the Southern Conference?:
It doesn't matter who we play, they are going to play their 'A' game. We just have to show up.

How much did winning a close game last time help?

Last time we played them was kind of the point that Coach Moore used to get us motivated.

Freshman Kylie Lambert

How important were your three-pointers in keeping the Lady Mocs in the game?
"Well I haven't been shooting as well as I planned on, but when we were shooting around this morning and before the game I was shooting a lot better. I had a feeling it was going to be a good shooting game."

How important were your three-pointers in keeping the Lady Mocs in the game?
"I was a little nervous at first. But once I got settled down, and having leaders out there, that really helped. Once I got settled I felt a lot better about being out there."

Appalachian State Head Coach Darcie Vincent
On the possession arrow call at the end of the game:
"It was very unfortunate. During the course of a game I know officials make bad calls, but tonight it was a difference changer. We didn't do the right things to win the game, but we didn't lose this game tonight. The referee's said the whistle was blown inadvertently, but we already had the ball in our hands after the whistle was blown. They went to the table to report a jump-ball, but they didn't report a jump-ball. They didn't report it to the table or to me, they discussed among themselves.  It is wrong and those officials shouldn't see another game, if you ask me. I am coaching a game for 12 minutes knowing that next jump-ball is your ball, but the officials didn't change the arrow and that is their fault. "

What did you think of your team's play?:
"We are the young team right now. We are going to make our mistakes. We have to move quicker, play harder and be more physical. We have some great athletes and great size, and we were very affective. The last few games, Chattanooga has been scoring 72 points a night. Wade-Fray has been hot and you have to worry about Hollinquest, but we were able to hold them to 14 total points. Luckily for Wes Moore, he had other key players step up and do a nice job offensively."
