CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---A trip west awaits the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team as it heads to Vail, Colo., for the Golfweek Conference Challenge. This year's event is played Sunday, Sept. 26, through Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Red Sky Golf Club on the Fazio Course.
There are 18 teams in the event with 12 - including Chattanooga - that were ranked in the top 50 at the end of the 2009-10 season. Two of those teams, Arizona (4) and Pepperdine (9), ranked in the top 10, while four more were in the top 25.
Junior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) led the Mocs in the opener finishing a career-best second in the Labor Day Shootout at the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The event was shortened to just 27 holes due to daylight, but Loza's five-over par 113 was just two shots behind medalist Courtney Bowe of Coastal Carolina.
Seniors Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) and Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) each ended up in the top 10 tying for fourth and seventh, respectively. Freshman Yushira Budhram (Johannesburg, South Africa) ted for 20th, while fellow freshman Jordan Britt (Dayton, Tenn.) tied for 26th.
WHO: Christine Wolf. Wolf's best collegiate performance was at last year's Golfweek Conference Challenge (Primm, Nev.) where she tied for third shooting an even-par total of 216 keying the Mocs to a third-place finish ahead of notables such as Oklahoma State and Ohio State.
