Chattanooga Heads into Final Round in 11th at Golfweek Conference Challenge
9/27/2010 9:19:00 PM | Women's Golf
VAIL, Colo. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is in 11th-place through 36 holes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club on the Fazio Course. The Mocs shot 310 Monday afternoon to stand at 613.
Chattanooga is one shot behind 10th-place San Jose State at 612. The Spartans also shot 310 for round two. The Mocs are eight shots clear of Texas A&M in 12th at 621.
UC Davis leads at 587 (+11). The Aggies shot the low round of the day with a 294 (+6) to pass Arizona. The Wildcats are in second at 588 followed by Virginia in third at 590.
Senior Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) and junior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) led the Mocs with twin 76s (+4). The duo each had one bad hole as de Groot's double bogey at the par five 18th, and Loza's double at one, slowed good rounds.
Starting on the 10th hole, de Groot birdied to open her day. She was one-over par before the double on 18 dropped her to plus three. She played her final nine at one over which is the score Loza had the turn herself. Her double was also followed by playing plus one over her final eight for her 76. De Groot is tied for 16th at 149 (+5), while Loza is tied for 38th at 153 (+9).
Like the top two scorers, senior Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) was derailed by an off hole. Hers came early with a triple bogey on 11, her second hole. Wolf played plus three the rest of the way for her 78. She is tied for 27th, one shot ahead of Loza at 152 (+8).
Freshman Jordan Britt (Dayton, Tenn.) matched her opening 80 and is tied for 63rd at 160. Fellow frosh Yushira Budhram (Johannesburg, South Africa) had the day's drop score of 86 and is tied for 81st with a 165.
Tuesday's final round is a shotgun start at 9 a.m., (MDT). Chattanooga is paired with San Jose State and Texas A&M. The tee assignments have de Groot starting on 10, Wolf and Loza on 11, and Budhram and Britt on 12.
