CHATTANOOGA HEAD COACH WES MOORE
Thoughts on the game
“I felt like we played hard down the stretch but you know we've got to bring it for 40 minutes. We don't have the margin of error that we've had sometimes in the past. We're counting on some kids to step up and they're not doing what they need to do.
“For some of them it may be knowing what we're doing offensively, knowing how to run a play. For some of them it may be doing their job defensively. What kills me is we got beat on the boards again. I'm tired of that happening.
“It doesn't help that we go 4-for-27 from the 3-point line, but there are still some things you can do to make up for that. We missed 42 shots and ended up with six rebounds. At halftime missed 21 shots and came up with two of them. That's less than 10 percent.
“We gave up 61 points. You ought to be able to win doing that. We've always said that if you hold a team to 30 points a half, we feel good about that defensively, yet we come out here and score 49 points. I've got to look at myself. I've got to look at this film and say 'Are we not getting good looks?' They've got to do their part as well and get out there and practice their shooting, but I have to look at myself and see what I can do for them as well.”
On creating more playing time for those off the bench
“I thought Destiny Bramblett came in and played hard and we're going to try to give her some earlier looks maybe.
“I thought Taylor Hall did a decent job – did a great job on the boards there for us. She's somebody who is still finding her way through it.
“We got Alex Black back out there tonight. It was good. But she's as lost as one of last year's Easter eggs. She's going to have to get her head screwed on and realize that this team is counting on her. She's got to step up.”
On the upcoming game with Western Carolina
“We've got to regroup and get ready for our game Saturday. Western Carolina loves playing us. They bring it. It'll be a great challenge. Those early years when Kelly (Harper) was over there, it came down to us and them quite a few times for the regular season championship. And then for the conference tournament and NCAA bid. It's a rivalry. We're pretty close to each other location wise. Some of those kids are from Tennessee or Georgia and we know them well and they get up for us. Everybody gets up for us but we've got to come up with a way to get over that by matching their intensity and their energy.”
