Postgame Quotes
UNCG at Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tenn. - The McKenzie Arena
Jan. 8, 2011
Head Coach Wes Moore
On picking up the win:
"The press bothered us a little bit. We still had almost a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio, which we will take about any day, so our kids did a good job. Tenisha [Townsend] had eight assists and only two turnovers. Kayla with six assists and two turnovers, so they did a nice job of taking care of the ball. Kylie Lambert we just keep piling more responsibilities on her and she is doing a great job of handling the ball for us. Offensively, she has hit some big shots. It is good to get another player on board that is doing some good things for us. Again, a good balanced attack. Whitney Hood was her normal solid self with 18 points and 13 boards. Bailey [Dewart] had eight boards and nine points, almost had a double-double herself. It was a good effort for the whole team."
On Tenisha Townsend with a career-high eight assists:
"That is what we need. She has taken on the responsibility of a point guard, which is much like a quarterback. Distribute the ball, get people the ball who are open and set people up for shot. She is doing a great job of that."
On defeating a tough UNCG squad:
"They were 5-0 in the league coming into this, so we knew that it would be a great challenge for us. There is no easy ones. Like I said before we are going to have our hands full night in and night out we better show up. We better be ready to play on both ends of the floor. Again, a pretty good effort. We have to bounce back pretty quickly as Elon knocked off Samford earlier today, so they are going to come in here feeling good and that is going to present another challenge for us as well."
On winning four-straight conference matches after dropping first two:
"We are looking a little better, but we have been at home. We set forth kind of win all four of these at home. Now we have one more hurdle to go. Hopefully, we can get that done and get ready for another challenge down the road."
On the Elon game on Monday:
"The thing that Elon is going to push you for 40 minutes. They run a lot of that 2-2-1 press. I am sure that will be a lot of our focus in practice tomorrow is getting ready for that. They have got some kids that can shoot the three and some scoring inside. Coach Nikki [Blasssingame] has been working on that scout for a couple of days. In a little while, I will get a chance to look at some of it. They won at Samford, which tells you that they are very capable of beating anyone in the league."
Sophomore Tenisha Townsend
On knocking down some big three-point field goals:
"We just got some open looks by my teammate penetrating and kicking out or in transition. UNCG did not matchup well and my teammates found me and I knocked it down."
On how the team has come together over the past couple of games:
"Definitely, we are just trying to keep it up. We got Elon Monday, so we are on a mission."
On what has changed:
"Our defense. At first, we were not doing too well on defense and during practice we have just been getting after it. We are starting to have more team chemistry."
On seeing the confidence from the younger players after this run:
"We are having a lot of confidence right now with winning some games. Everybody is feeling good and we are trying to keep it on a roll."
Junior Whitney Hood
On having a little bit of an off night from the field:
"I was not really frustrated. I just wanted to keep playing. I was getting a little frustrated on defense. I was trying to get around 55, which is pretty much where the frustration came from trying to play defense and stay aggressive."
On seeing the confidence from the younger players after this run:
"We are focus in practices has been good. We have had some good play off the bench with Meghan Downes playing well. We are on a mission to get things done."
