Lady Mocs Head Coach Wes Moore
On the Lady Mocs' matchup against Lee University
"The first half was pretty ugly. Maybe we can attribute it to the fact that it was the first time with fans in the seats, and the lights on bright and all of that, but whatever. It was not a pretty game, and I thought in the second half they did a nice job of settling down and they started knocking shots down. In a lot of ways they outplayed us in the second half, and we have a lot of work to do. Lee is always going to get after you, and they have kids that are fundamental and play hard. They're always going to test you so we're going to have to clean up a whole lot of things before Friday night because UAB is going to be a little bit longer and a little bit more athletic. It's going to be a lot harder to do the things we want to do offensively and to try to slow them down a little bit because of their speed. Hopefully we can take this film tonight, break it down and show it to the team and get better."
On the game plan of the exhibition
"In exhibition games we try to get everybody in there that we think is going to get playing time or has the potential to get playing time. We want to see what they can do in a game situation. That's the tough part is trying to get some kids out there and give them some minutes to see how they perform in a game situation. You want to win, but at the same time you need to get some kids out on the court, some unproven commodities, and see how they perform."
Moore's impression of the younger players of the team
"The idea was to get those kids out there and get them some playing time. The freshmen and the sophomores, we need them to step up and get things done in game situations. I thought Alex Black played pretty well tonight and did some good things for us. She can break down a defense better than anybody on our team, which is going to set things up for her team mates. She and Meghan Downes are still learning the game a little bit mentally, but we've got to get them out on the floor and let them have some trial by the fire, so to speak."
Senior Whitney Hood, Forward
On the night's game against Lee University
"I defiantly think we got our feet wet. We've got to get better as a team and better on defense, but we've got until next Friday to work on some things. We've got to be ready to play at the start of the game and finish shots. We didn't hit as many shots in the first half and we have to do the little things it takes to win games."
On the Lady Mocs' performance against the Lady Flames
"I think we did some good things. We defiantly have a lot to work on. We've got UAB coming in next Friday, which is a very athletic team, and I think we'll be ready by next Friday."
On the team's last-minute position battles
"I think now is the time to figure out who wants it more. We have a lot of posts, and it is good for us because when somebody gets tired he can put somebody else in."
Freshman Taylor Hall, Forward
On the Lady Mocs' performance against Lee University
"You could tell we were nervous and had first-game jitters, but I think once we got going, you could tell it just took us a little bit to get warmed up. We eventually started doing things right that we were messing up on originally, but we still have a lot of work to do. At half time we said it seems like a really long half. At point, nobody was really scoring that much at the beginning, but it picked up a little bit in the second half."
On the team's last-minute position battles
"We have a lot of posts so I'm sure Coach Moore will try a lot of different combinations, and then in December we'll have Faith Dupree coming in so that'll be a factor."
