POSTGAME QUOTES - Feb. 26, 2011
On being outrebounded
We just can't keep doing this. It's going to come back to bite us. We talked about that quite a bit just now in the locker room. We got outrebounded by nine and on the offensive board wise we got outrebounded. We're going to have to get that done and free throws.
On free throw shooting
We need to knock down our free throws. Down the stretch we did a decent job but some of the misses were front end of one-and-ones. We're just too good a shooting team to leave points on the table like that.
Whitney Hood's performance
I don't know what she had at halftime. It wasn't pretty in the first half, six points and three rebounds. I thought down the stretch, especially, Whitney did a great job on the defensive boards, going to get them and kept them from making the run at us. I thought that was real big.
On the contributions from the team
Bailey Dewart hit some big shots for us. Tenisha Townsend hit a couple of threes. We had some people step up. Taylor Hall hit a 3 there in the first half. Kayla Christopher didn't have her normal offensive game and we were still able to win.
This was one of those games that wasn't pretty but we grinded it out. I'm proud of the way this team has gotten a little bit tougher. Early in the year if we'd had to play this road games that we just finished with, we'd be lucky to get one win. To go on the road and get three straight says a lot about how they've matured. But we've got to get tougher on the boards. That concerns me heading into tournament time. Rebounding usually will make the difference.
I think Kylie getting in foul trouble didn't help us any. She picked up two pretty quick fouls. That makes it tough because it messes with our . We've been comfortable here lately with our perimeter substitutions. Alex Black I thought did a pretty good job in the first half - needing to get her out there, but with them pressing us down the stretch, I thought Tenisha's experience helped and we rode it out.
Be ready. Capriee Tucker last weekend was the one that was ready and stepped up and we're going to need some other people to be in that position next weekend.
On securing the No. 3 seed and playing the late morning game on Saturday, March 5
We don't have to scoreboard watch. We're in that third seed spot. Get ready for a game on Saturday. At halftime I told them: "If we don't get this done we have a 9 a.m. tip. Think about what time pre-game is." We talked about it at halftime. I mentioned it again after the game. At least we avoided that. That's a good thing.
Whoever the six seed is, it will be a good team. I don't know how the chips are going to fall. UNCG, Georgia Southern, Furman - the teams in that area are all very dangerous teams.
Hey, It's a new season. We'll take a day or two off here and get them fresh. Erase the board. In the past I've hated erasing the board but this year, what the heck, erase the board and let's see if we can get somebody.
