Postgame Quotes
Wofford at Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tenn. - McKenzie Arena
Jan. 13, 2012
Head Coach Wes Moore
Opening Statement:
"Again, I am proud of the way our team fought to come back and end up with a W. This team has to learn and we talked about it after the game. I don't want to rain on their parade. It is a win and we have to enjoy everyone one of them and then move on, but we have to play a little closer to detail. Whether it is how we are playing the pick on the ball, making sure that everybody is on the same page. It maybe details on the scouting report, trying to take someone's dominant hand away or their strength. Just the little things. I think that this team is talented, but we are going to have to do a better job of paying attention to details and getting the maximum out of the talent we have."
On when opponents are not doubling the post, does it change your philosophy:
"Sometimes we strain away from that. It is my job to make sure that we are going where we need to go. Whitney Hood is always option one. She did a great job in the second half. She has been knocking down free throws well this year, just doing the little things. You have to go there until that is not working. It has to be your first look."
On the three that Kayla Christopher hit to put the team up nine down the stretch:
"That was a big shot. We just have to do a better job of getting her looks. That was a set play and we were hoping she would get a good look off of it. We rain it earlier in the second half and got a three as well. Kayla is somebody that we have to make sure gets the ball and make sure that she is looking to shoot because that is what she does for this team."
On shooting well from three point range against a tough Wofford defense:
"Good shooters. We have some kids that can knock down the three. Fortunately, we have several spots that can do it, that is the biggest things. Obviously, when you have a post player like a Whitney Hood or Faith Dupree, they are going to have to pay some attention to them. I know that there was a few times that the guard tried to help down on the block and we were able to take advantage of that by getting an open look. In transition, you have to look for that as well. Ideally, we are going to be an inside-out team and get some looks and we are going to knock those down. We were fortunate because we needed to shoot it well tonight as it turned out."
On starting the conference 6-0:
"We have one team in the league that is also undefeated. We have a couple of teams that came into the night with one loss, so there is not a whole lot of breathing room. I feel like winning the regular season is a big thing because that shows over a 20-game span, who took care of business and did the best job. That is important, but it is also important that we get better and are not the same team in March that we are right now. Let's make sure that we are focused and continuing to get better."
Senior Forward Whitney Hood
On the mentality that the game could swing either way with the score tied at 47:
"It is like a new ball game. Just keep playing hard and work for things to go our way."
On starting off strong in the conference so far:
"It feels good, but it is not our goal. Our goal is to win the SoCon Championship. We just have to take it one game at a time. We have a big game Sunday and going down the stretch we have some big games too. It is just taking it one game at a time and working on the little things."
Senior Guard Kylie Lambert
On the difference in the last 10 minutes:
"Rebounds. That is always the difference. One thing that he [Coach Moore] puts on the board is to be relentless going to the boards and that is what we had to do to pull it out."
On how relentless registers to the team:
"It does. Being relentless is important to me and I believe that it is important to my teammates as well because that is what he is expecting out of us."
On why Wofford was hard to put away:
"They are a good team I believe. They continued to work hard on defense. They were shooting it really well, too."
