On the overall play of the game
It starts with me. We looked like the worst prepared team in the country, especially in the second half. We've got to get the ball inside some, I don't care if they're in man, zone or whatever. We've got to get the ball and work inside-out. We didn't do that. When you shoot 26 3's, that's not a good sign. Over half our shots were from the 3-point line, and I know I was stressing late in the game we got to get some 3's maybe get back in this thing.
On rebounding
They just dominated us. It's embarrassing. They got 48 board sto 25, but more importantly, they had 19 offensive rebounds, we got four. You're not going to win that way. I don't care what you do. Offensively we really struggled and looked lost. Tough loss, gotta tip your hat to them. They dominated us in the second half and we're going ot have to go back to the drawing board so to speak.
On "getting back to the drawing board"
Start with pounding the ball inside. Whitney Hood's our horse. We've got to get her the ball and if they want to collapse, and in the first half we did that some. We got the ball inside, they collapsed, we kicked it out and knocked some shots down. Second half we stood around and played with it and let the shot clock run down. Then when we would look at her, we'd take too long. She can't hold a seal forever, nobody can. You've got to anticipate as a guard, you've got to steal a peek at how the post d is being played and feed her when opportunity comes. Like I said, it looked like we didn't know what we were doing and so I'll take the blame for that. As far as competing though, I can't take the blame for rebounding. They have to compete and they have to realize that we're gonna get every body's best shot. Appalachian came out ready to play and we got their best shot.
We've got to compete and be willing to compete. We've got some great kids on this team. They're nice and sweet, but they've got to understand when you step between the lines, you're going to have to battle and fight and maybe even be a little nasty out there and have a bad disposition. Today ASU did that, we didn't. Obviously that was a big difference in the game when you look at the rebounding and certain areas like that. Offensively we've got to get back to doing what we do best.
On the start of the game
I was proud of how our kids came out initially and we hit some shots and got comfortable. They got out of their press. We didn't have any trouble with their press, that was a big concern coming in. We handled it well. So they then went back to playing zone half court defense and we had to settle for some bad shots.
