Women?s Golf Finishes 13th at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team finished 13th against a strong field at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate at Cherokee Country Club. The Mocs shot 923 to end up four behind College of Charleston in 12th and one shot in front of Penn State in 14th.
Senior Agathe Sauzon tied for 15th to lead the squad. She shot 222 with rounds of 76, 72 and 74. It is her second top 15 in a row.
“Aggie's carrying us right now,” head coach Colette Murray said. “Without her, we're not doing very much. She's just scratching the surface of what she can do.”
Isabella Loza tied for 32nd four behind Sauzon at 226. She carded scores of 76, 72 and 78 which gave the team a needed lift.
“Isa had a good tournament,” Murray added. “I was pleased to see it. Nothing seemed to fall for her today, but she never gave up on the process that was working for her. I was very proud of Isa and her effort this week.”
Murray was happy with the progress through the event shown by freshman Megan Woods. Woods had a tough opening round with an 85, but bounced back to shoot 77 and 76. Although neither Woods nor Murray see that as her best, the eight-year head coach was quick to credit her efforts as well.
“Megan is showing signs of promise,” Murray said. “Her want to contribute to this team is great. I love her attitude.”
Emily McLennan (237) finished one stroke ahead of Woods (238). Sarah Dolmovich ended up at 256.
No. 2 South Carolina won the event shooting 865. That was 14 better than host No. 13 Tennessee (879) in second which topped Kent State in third by one at 880. The Gamecocks had three ladies finish in the top four including medalist Nanna Madsen. Madsen won with a 1-under total of 212.
Chattanooga completes its fall campaign at the end of the month. The squad travels to Kiawah Island for the Palmetto Intercollegiate October 26-28. The three-day, 54-hole event is played at Turtle Point.
