Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga vs. South Dakota
San Antonio, Texas
Monday – Dec. 29, 2014
Head Coach Jim Foster
Opening thoughts on the game:
“We are a team that is going to have some droughts, offensively. We can't let the other team get away from us. We are young and we don't have that go-to, create your own (individual). Taylor Hall could create baskets out of nowhere. (Keiana) is starting to grow into that, but it is a process and she is not even halfway through her freshman year.
“The defense has remained solid and we really, really get after it. We forced them to have a lot of turnovers, which gave us some opportunities to get out there and get in the open floor. That was pretty much the difference. It was a 13-point win, but we had eight fast break points that were off of transition steals.”
On the play of Alicia Payne:
“She made a big three, made some foul shots and rebounded the ball. She had a good line. Six rebounds, eight points, four assists, two blocks and a steal. One of the blocks was absolutely terrific.”
On the win today:
“This was a very good win because this is a very good basketball team. They are a team that at the end of the year they are going to have three or four losses. They are going to win an awful lot of games and we are going to look back and we held them to their season low. We have been doing that to a lot of teams and I think that is something that we are not satisfied with yet, but we are evolving into a very good defensive team. If we could stop the silly fouls, we could be an even better defensive team.”
On the play of the bench when Jasmine Joyner got into foul trouble:
“It gives us a different look when Destiny comes in. All of the sudden our center is stepping behind three point line and taking threes. That's a hard scouting report for the other team. As active as Jazz is, offensively, setting the screens that she sets and getting the ball in the post with her back to the basket is pretty good. Nice touch on a medium range game. Then Destiny comes in and she is stepping out behind the three point line, so the other team's center has a lot of thinking to do and a lot of work to do. It is another dimension. Destiny has been physical and that's what she needed to add to her game.”
