Mocs Tied for 2nd after 18 Holes at SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is tied for second place after the first round of the Southern Conference Championship. The Mocs shot 312 and is even with Samford, seven shots behind Furman.
It was a tough scoring day across the board at Moss Creek Golf Club's North Course. Sunday's opening 18 showed why it's known as the “Devil's Elbow” as the competitors averaged a robust 81.47 strokes per player.
Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) is the first round leader with a one-over par 73. McLennan had four birdies and nine pars offset by five bogeys for her 18 holes. She took full advantage of the par 5's playing the four long holes at minus three.
Her lead is one over Natalie Mitchell of Samford at 74. Valentina Romero of Furman is in third at plus three, while a trio of golfers – Alex Jasper (Samford), Aubrie Street (Furman) and Taylor Totland (Furman) – are tied for fourth at 76.
Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France), Jordan Britt (Chattanooga) and Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) finished within a stroke of each other to complete the Mocs scoring. Sauzon is tied for 11th at 79, while Britt and Loza are tied for 14th after carding 80's.
Round two starts at 10:30 a.m., Monday. Chattanooga is paired with Furman and Samford. Live scoring and tee times are linked above.
