The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team kicked off the 2014 fall season in steamy Macon, Ga., this afternoon.  The Mocs saw three individuals advance to main draw semifinals, while two doubles teams are still alive in the winner's bracket.

Juniors Luke Saunders and Nick Wingord will meet in tomorrow's Flight B semifinals after wins today.  Saunders, the top seed in the second flight, defeated Georgia College's Kyle Kinsler (6-7, 6-2, 2-0 (ret.) in his first match.

Wingord won in his Chattanooga debut with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Middle Georgia State College's Nick Peters, the No. 4 seed in the bracket.

“I thought we did fairly well considering the heat,” stated head coach Carlos Garcia.  “It was one of the hottest fall tournaments I have ever worked, but we battled through it.  All-in-all, I was happy with how the first day went.”

Sophomore Austin Boaz had an impressive win in Flight C.  He took out Georgia Southern's Pradeep Raja (6-5, 6-4) to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Junior John Peacey and sophomore Nic Wilson upheld their No. 1 seed in the doubles Flight A.  They beat Middle Georgia's Elliott Wharton and Jordan Clayton 8-3.

Boaz teamed with fellow sophomore Derrick Brown as the top seed in the Flight B doubles.  They scored an 8-2 win over MGSC Jake Hicks and Carl Gallauer.
