FRANKLIN, Tenn.---Senior Agathe Sauzon had it going during Friday's opening round at the Mason Rudolph Championship. She tied her career low score with a 3-under 69 to pace the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team to a 3-over 291 at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Sauzon turned in four birdies and 13 pars against just one bogey. She is tied for second, a mere shot behind LSU's Elise Bradley at 4 under.
“She was in the zone today,” coach Colette Murray said. “It's a really good round, hopefully one she'll build on. She's a wonderful player and this isn't surprising for her.”
Emily McLennan is tied for ninth after a 71 (-1). Isabella Loza and Sarah Dolmovich closed out the counting cards with a 73 and 78, respectively. Megan Woods tallied a 79, while Cris Perez shot 81 playing as an individual.
“I couldn't be any more pleased of the way they carried themselves today,” Murray added. “It's a really good tournament on a really tough golf course. They went out with an intent and carried it out.
“It's great to have Chattanooga's name up there with so many great programs after the first day,” Murray concluded. “I just hope it's there in the end.”
LSU leads at 3 under (285). The Tigers are three clear of host Vanderbilt at level par 288, and six up on the Mocs. Alabama's Lakareber Abe is tied for second with Sauzon at 3 under behind Bradley at minus four. Chattanooga is ahead of Mississippi State by one, while Alabama is in fifth at 294.
Round two starts at 10:40 a.m., Eastern time for the Mocs. Woods leads off with the squad paired with LSU and Vandy on the first tee. She's followed by Dolmovich (10:50), Loza (11:00), McLennan (11:10) and Sauzon (11:20). Live scoring is linked above.
