Strong Wins
Chattanooga claimed some strong wins this weekend. It topped Alabama by nine, Michigan State by 15 and Clemson by 21. All three programs were among the best in the nation in 2013-14 as the Crimson Tide was No. 10, the Tigers No. 14 and the Spartans ending last season No. 26 in Golfstat's rankings. Last year's No. 30 Tulane was a 17-stroke victim to the Mocs. Alabama, Michigan State and Tulane all qualified for the NCAA Championships this past May.
Sauzon Matches Career Best
It was a pretty special opening round for Agathe Sauzon. She was a lipped-out par putt on her final hole Friday from a blemish-free card. Sauzon tallied four birdies and 13 pars over her first 17 holes to shoot a 3-under par 69. The 69 and four birdies tied her top marks entering the season. She also had four birdies in the first and third cards at the Cardinal Cup earlier in the week. The 69 is her second career round in the 60's and 13th par or better.
Par or Better Numbers
Emily McLennan's 1-under 71 in round one is her second par or better card of 2014-15, 11th in her career. Megan Woods closed out the event with her first with today's 72.
Tourney Bests
This is the third visit to the Mason Rudolph Championship for Chattanooga. It was easily the best. Sauzon's 69 is the team's best 18 holes at Vanderbilt Legends Club, while McLennan's 144 (E) for 36 holes and 220 (+4) for her total each top the previous two entries. The seventh-place finish is the top team ending as well with new lows for 18 (291, Friday), 36 (591) and 54-hole (895) scoring.
Par 5 Scoring
The Mocs were 1 under on the five par 5's for the weekend. That was led by McLennan who was 4 under which puts her a -6 for the season (6 rounds) on par 5's. Woods was 3 under for the weekend, all over the last 36 holes.
