Thoughts on the 3-point shooting today:
“I thought we moved the ball well and got quality looks at the three-point line. We made the extra pass often and got good clean looks that way.
On the chance to play a lot of people:
“That has a lot of value and it allows you to make some teaching points. Some of the players who still are working on things, need to continue to work on things and get better. It is one thing in practice when you get used to playing each other to do it. When you get into a games…we've been telling some of them to have a quicker release and be ready to shoot. We had a couple of players today get shots blocked that didn't need to. There is such a thing as practicing game speed and playing game speed. I have said this to them over and over, every time you take a jump … the game gets faster and quicker and your skill set has to adjust as you go along to be a good player at that level. The analogy that you see all of the time is in baseball. You hit .360 in Class A and then you go to Double A and they have change-ups and sliders and all of the sudden you are hitting .240. That might be who we are. You have to adjust as you go along and tweak your game as you go along.”
On the play of Alicia Payne:
“Red is a smart basketball player. As a role player, she was viewed for her energy and never developed some of the other aspects of her game. Now that she is on the floor for long periods of time, there are some things she is getting better at. One of the things…if she shoots the ball well, she becomes just a terrific, terrific player and has a chance to make us a very good team. The intangibles, five assists, a block and three steals … that kind of stuff.
“She is fearless, in a good way. She is one of those fun players to coach.”
