Tip off to the 2015-16 women's basketball season is just 22 days away and it's time to take a look back at the Mocs historic 2014-15 season.
Up next is the Mocs second win over a Top 10 foe. After scoring a huge victory over No. 4 Tennessee a few week earlier, the Mocs had their eyes set on No. 7 Stanford in the first meeting between the two teams.
It was free throws and a strong defense that kept the Mocs in the game in the final 11 minutes 26 seconds of play. UTC missed all 12 field goal attempts over that time but went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Nine of
Jasmine Joyner's rebounds were off the defensive glass and she recorded five blocked shots.
With 13:14 to play in the game,
Chelsey Shumpert drained on of her game-high five 3-pointers to give the Mocs their largest lead of the game at 42-32.
Keiana Gilbert's jumper 1:48 later would be the Mocs last, returning the lead to double-figures, 44-34, one last time.
Stanford slashed Chattanooga's lead to five points with six minutes to play. The Mocs made three of its next four free throws to push is lead to 47-39, but Stanford answered with five more points to get within three points at 47-44 with just over two minutes to play.
With just 36 ticks on the clock, the lead was still just one basket away at 49-46. UTC went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe over that time for the win. While shooting just 32 percent from the floor, UTC made nine from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Cardinal 49-34. The Mocs scored 18 points off 15 turnovers.
This was marked the first time UTC had recorded two victories over Top 10 foes and Chattanooga began receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll.
