The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is 9th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate with a balanced 295.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team shot 295 (+7) in the opening round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate. It was a balanced effort with Megan Woods' 73 (+1) leading a trio of Mocs at 74 (+2). The squad is ninth, one shot behind Kansas and Coastal Carolina tied in seventh.
"I think we just got it around today," coach Colette Murray said. "We didn't play particularly well, but we didn't play particularly poorly either. The big difference is we didn't have anyone go low. That's OK, we have two more rounds to go."
Woods had a career-high 15 pars to go with one birdie and two bogeys. She is tied for 23rd at +1, one clear of teammates Emily McLennan, Cris Perez and Monica San Juan who are tied for 32nd at +2. Isabella Loza had the drop score with an 80.
Campbell is the first round leader at -2 (286). Kennesaw State is a shot back at -1 followed by Furman at E. Illinois, Xavier and Louisville are tied for fourth at 290 (+2). Just 10 strokes separates first and 10th with Boise State trailing the Mocs by one at 296 in 10th.
The Fighting Camels' Nadine White is the early individual leader. She fired a 5-under par 67 to take a two-stroke advantage over Coastal Carolina's Malene Krollboll Hansen at -3. There are eight tied for third at -2.
Tomorrow's second round starts at 10:15 for the Mocs on hole No. 10. The ladies tee it up with Augusta and Illinois again with Loza leading off ahead of San Juan (10:24), Perez (10:33), McLennan (10:42) and Woods (10:51). Click the live scoring and pairings links above for more information.
