Mocs Tumble at No. 21/20 South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team fell 61-33 to No. 21/20 South Florida Sunday afternoon at the Sun Dome. The Mocs fall to 5-4 overall and the Bulls improve to 6-2 with the win.
 
Junior Jasmine Joyner (Southaven, Miss.) led the Mocs with 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting and was 1-of-1 from the 3-point line. She pulled in seven rebound and added six blocked shots to her school-record moving to fifth in the Southern Conference with 231 over her career.
 
Junior Moses Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) had a career-high 11 rebounds while senior Alicia Payne (Memphis, Tenn.) dropped in eight points, playing all 40 minutes. Sophomore Keiana Gilbert (Pulaski, Tenn.) had six points and five rebounds and junior Queen Alford (Decatur, Ga.) had five points.
 
Chattanooga started the game shooting 57 percent from the field making four of its first seven shots to take a 9-2 lead. The Bulls were unable to find the bucket from the field until the 2:29 mark of the first half, missing all 14 of its shots, but would go on to outscore Chattanooga 27-8 the remainder of the half.
 
The Mocs fell further behind in the third quarter, outscored 19-11 by the Bulls. Payne scored six of her eight points in the third quarter, making 2-of-4 shots and connecting on both free throws.
 
South Florida went on a 15-4 run to start the third quarter, building its lead to 23 points before Payne and Alford combined for five points to cut the lead to 44-26 with 1:17 to go in the third frame. That's the closest it would be the rest of the way as the Bulls went outscored UTC 17-7 over the final 10:26 of the game.
 
Courtney Williams, who missed all eight of her attempts in the first quarter, had a game-high 15 points and grabbed 11 boards. She was joined in double figures by Kitija Laska off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds. Alisia Jenkins had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Shaltha Stringfield contributed eight points and Laura Ferrieira had seven points, five boards, two blocked shots and a pair of steals.
 
UTC was 13-of-49 from the field, making just 26.5 percent on the day and was 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
