Head Coach Jim Foster

On today's game…

“I wouldn't have any negative opinion when we shoot 52 percent. We had 21 assists and 12 turnovers. I thought we did a good job at taking care of the ball, not forcing and getting opportunities for back cuts because we did do that. We got a lot of people in; played a lot of different combinations. We played against a team that plays real hard.  I like most of the stuff I'm looking at.”

On  Sydney Vanlandingham

“Well she's starting to play a little bit slower, letting the game come to her a little bit more. Playing against guys in the recreation center is not exactly a great way to prepare for basketball at this level. That's what she did the last year so she's just starting to get a handle on and a feel for it.”

On Destiny Bramblett

“I loved Destiny's defense in the first half. They were hurting us a little bit in the post. Without Jasmine that could be a concern, but Destiny didn't make it a concern. She just was terrific on the defensive end. She got low and worked real hard to make sure they didn't get good position. It became very difficult for them to get the ball to her.”

On UNCG coming out aggressive…

“They've been doing this for four months.  You don't walk on the floor and people faint. They come at you and I expect everybody in this conference to. I give them a lot of credit. They did a few things differently, and then we started to adjust to what they were doing. Once we made that adjustment we got good opportunities.”

 Destiny Bramblett

On her mindset when she comes in the game…

“Coach Foster just tells me I need to play sound defense, I need to be the aggressor.  Coach John [McCray] says, “Be the hammer, not the nail.” So I just felt like I needed to be physical just as much as they were being physical with Jasmine. Coming off the bench and bringing that energy helped us in the first half as well.”

Was there a main focus on Lucy Mason?

“We don't really have a focus on one person. I know looking at the statistics she's [Lucy Mason] been playing well. We didn't see much of her the first game but I know she came out and has been playing well. We had to shut down other people as well because I know they're a really athletic team and they're capable of doing a lot of things as well.”

Chelsey Shumpert

What were they doing that was making it tough for you guys to pull away at times?

“I think they were just being aggressive. They had a lot of energy, and pressuring us to where we couldn't do what we wanted to do. We got the hang of it, we back cut and did what we needed to do.

On the last seven minutes of the first half..

“We just came out with a lot more energy than we started with. I think when Jasmine went out, the bench payers came out and they played really aggressive and they helped us throughout the game.”

What did Coach Foster say in the timeouts?

“He was just telling us to move the ball. The more we moved the ball, the closer they had to get to us, and we could back cut and do what we needed to do.”
