CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team lost a heart breaker Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium with Austin Peay coming away with a 1-0 win in the season opener for the Mocs. Austin Peay evens its record to 1-1 while the Mocs start the year 0-1.

After battling it out through 100 minutes of regulation and one overtime, the Lady Govs' Jennifer Smith picked up a pass from Sydney Dawson for the score. Dawson sent a pass from the far post to Smith who picked it up for a header into the bottom right side of the goal past Chattanooga keeper Katie Emig in the 102nd minute.

"Katie did a great job," UTC head coach Gavin McKinney said. "It was just an unfortunate goal. It was just out of her reach in the bottom corner of the net."

Emig made three saves on the day and Chattanooga got shots from sophomore Abby Linder (Germantown, Tenn.), sophomore McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) and freshman Rachel Giampapa (Jackson, Tenn.).

The Mocs had several opportunities to score with the best early in the game. Sophomore Samantha Hogan (Gallatin, Tenn.) was racing toward the goal down the left side and managed to get past Austin Peay's keeper Lindsey Todd who came out in defense. However, Hogan's kick was picked up by the Lady Govs' defense and cleared.

The Mocs were able to keep the Lady Govs away from the net throughout the first half and the first overtime. Emig made all three of her saves in the second half.

Austin Peay used its bench, subbing often throughout the second half. The Lady Govs got two shots each from Kirstin Robertson, Shelby Olszewski, McKenzie Dixon and Smith who came off the bench for APSU.

The Mocs return to action Friday night with its first road match of the season at Kennesaw State. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Live stats and streaming video will be available on the schedule page at GoMocs.com.
