Head coach Jim FosterOn performance tonight."We had to take care of the ball. I think we did that. The other team doesn't have to dictate how you play. You can dictate how you play. I thought we did a pretty good job of dictating the tempo, good ball movement. A lot of people contributing and scoring points."
Is the team playing how you'd like them to?"We're starting to take advantage of some of the attributes this group possess. We have a bunch of players that can score on the block, and we're getting those opportunities. They're taking pretty good care of the ball. It's a good defensive group; very interchangeable. And we're just starting to figure some stuff out.
Jasmine Joyner is playing around the block a little more, not on the perimeter quite as much.
Queen Alford is learning how to be a pretty good player."
On being 3-0 in conference play."We play the schedule we play for a reason. It toughens us up. It makes us better basketball players. We're starting to blend into a cohesive unit that plays to their attributes."
On Queen Alford's potential."She has a lot of skills. In the past, she played the game at one speed. She's learned how to change speeds, and she's learned how to diversify her game. She's added a mid-range shot. She's learned how to finish with both hands. I think tonight three of her baskets were with her left hand. Two of them, it was essential that she used her left hand. She did a great job with it."
How important is Queen's play with Chelsey Shumpert battling an injury?"Chelsey's going to have to get better if Queen keeps getting this much better. It's always a challenge, and that's a good thing. The more good players you have, the more competition you have and the better team you have. We see
Ashlyn Wert at practice, where
Jasmine Joyner has really had to work. And that's a good thing for Ashlyn and a good thing for Jasmine, and that's a good thing for us. Hopefully others will start to see it."
On Alicia Payne averaging 40 minutes a game."She's done a pretty good job. She still takes some time off that I don't like. She's starting to understand what that is, and she'll just keep getting better as a result. There's more in her, and I'm asking for it all. Eventually, she'll be there.
Keiana Gilbert as a ball handling front floor player gives us a dimension that can help Alicia with time too."
Jasmine Joyner, Jr.-FHow much fun is it to be in the game when everyone is in the flow?"It's really fun. This is a team game so we're all going to have to depend on one person. If another team looks at this, we can't take one person out and then Chattanooga will break down. You see the whole team getting involved in this game and it's really fun.
Â
"For instance when Red made that shot and the buzzer beat her, or when I passed the ball to Queen, she saved my life and she got the bucket. It was really fun when everyone gets involved in the game."
What do you notice about Queen as she progresses through this season?"She's gotten more aggressive. As I said last interview she hasn't played in two years and now she's remembering her strength and she's bringing a lot to us to this game."
Was the Coaching set up different this game?"It was the same old same old; nothing different. We just had Coach Foster behind me instead of in front of me when I was sitting on the bench. We came and prepared like any other time."
Queen Alford, Jr.-GÂ What were the things you worked on in the off season to get to this point?"When I first came in I was working on my three's and on my midrange. When I started playing the game at this level there are a lot more people who are taller than me; guards. So I started to learn how to post up and stuff like that. So it's like one, two, three."Â
