Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Mercer
Hawkins Arena - Macon, Ga.
Thursday – Jan. 21, 2016Head Coach Jim Foster"They really outplayed us tonight. All of the loose balls were theirs. They did a great job on the boards. We did not put a body on them and I think the Lawrence kid is probably the toughest kid in the league to guard.
"She has got an absolutely, terrific mid-range game. She gets to a spot and gets it in the air. She is a very good player. Very good player. She is a heady player, knows how to change her speed. She is a very good basketball player. We just did not compete at the level we need and that is for us to figure out by Saturday.
"For us to be a good basketball team Kei Gilbert has got to be more assertive, offensively. That is something that I have been talking to her about all year. I look down and I see the Lawrence kid is 11-22, and Kei is 5-10. I think she had every opportunity to take 20 shots herself. For us to be a good basketball team and compete at the level, Kei has to take that step.
"We don't have Chelsey (Shumpert), so it has to be somebody. She is by far has the most attributes and the ability to do it. We have asked her to and we are going to see her step up I believe.
On other players needing to step up:"Jas has got to do a better job in the post. I thought the latter part of the fourth quarter, she was really working on her position and trying to get a strong position, and did. But I think she allowed the folks to be very physical with her early on. They were bumping here and she didn't fight back like she needs to. Towards the end of the game she figured that out."
On Samford and ETSU coming up:"They are two very good teams and they happen to be our next two opponents. We have to get our act together and we have to understand that it's not going to be easy."
