CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fell 4-0 to Samford Friday night at Finley Stadium, snapping a three-game win streak. The Mocs are 5-8-1 overall and 3-2 in league play while the Bulldogs move into first alone at 8-3-2 on the year and 4-1 against the SoCon.
Â
"Samford is very athletic and their movement was good," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "They scored a few really good goals and are a very strong team."
Â
The Bulldogs scored twice in each frame. The first came in the ninth minute after Samford drew a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. League-leading scorer Jermaine Seoposenwe connected on the shot for her 10
th goal of the year.
Â
Courtney Hendrickson teamed up with Abriella Argueta, younger sister of former Chattanooga player Andi Argueta, for Samford's second score midway through the first half. Argueta, assisted by Seoposenwe, would put the Bulldogs up 3-0 in the 61
st minute. Sara Smeltzer took a pass from Mia Duproc for the fourth score at the 81:57 mark of the match.
Â
"Our lesson to learn from this is that against a team like this we have to maintain focus for the full 90 minutes," McKinney said. "If our shape isn't right, they will find a way to exploit it."
Â
Chattanooga was outshot 12-3 with the Mocs' keeper freshman
Melia Correa making four saves. Junior
Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Mocs with two shots.
Â
The Mocs will close out the home schedule of the regular season next weekend. UTC will host ETSU Friday night at Finley Stadium and then say goodbye to its seniors against Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
