The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is in first-place on Kiawah Island at 5 under. Senior Emily McLennan is tied for first individually at -4.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.---Emily McLennan's 4-under 68 led the Chattanooga Mocs to the top of the leaderboard after 18 holes of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic. McLennan's bogey-free card included four birdies and 14 pars as the Mocs take a seven-shot lead into round two on Monday.
Chattanooga's 5-under team total included McLennan's 68, Cris Perez's 70, Megan Woods' 72, while Isabella Loza and Monica San Juan turned in 73s. The 283 is the second-lowest 18 of the season for the team behind an 8-under 280 in the second round of the Fall Invitational. It's the best opening round since 6-under 282 at the 2014 Web.com Intercollegiate.
All five Mocs rank in the top 15. McLennan is tied for the lead with Malene Krolboll Hansen at -4. Perez is tied for fourth at -2, while Woods comes in tied for ninth at E. San Juan and Loza's 1-over 73s ties for 15th.
Perez just missed a bogey-less 18 of her own. She tallied three birdies, 14 pars and a solitary bogey for her 70. She's -3 for her four spring rounds with three par or better 18s.
As a team, UTC played par or better on 64 of 72 holes on the counting cards. The ladies registered 15 birdies. It's the 13th time in double digits this season and fifth in a row.
Host College of Charleston (290) is in second just ahead of Coastal Carolina (291) in third. Old Dominion (293) stands in fourth.
Round two is a 10:43 start for the Mocs playing with Old Dominion and ETSU again today. Loza starts off on No. 10 followed by San Juan (10:52), Woods (11:01), Perez (11:10) and McLennan (11:19). Click the live scoring and pairings links above for more information.
