TEAM
- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team scored a 65-57 win over top-seeded Mercer to win the 2016 Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. today.

- It is the 17th SoCon Tournament for UTC … fourth in a row.

- Mocs are 17-0 in SoCon Tournament finals.

- UTC is making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

- The Mocs opened the game with an 11-2 run.

- Chattanooga led 21-13 after first quarter … shot 7-15 (46.7%) and 4-7 (57.1%) from behind the arc.

- Mocs led 33-24 at the half … UTC came into the game 20-0 when leading at the break.

- Mercer hit one at the buzzer to cut UTC's lead to 51-40 … then forced two turnovers into four quick points in the first minute of the 4th to cut the lead to 51-44.

- Mercer ended up with a 13-2 run to start the fourth … took a 54-53 lead on Lawrence jumper with 4:07 left.

- Mocs went on a 9-0 after that to take a 62-54 lead with 1:00 minute left.

- Head coach Jim Foster is 9-0 in the SoCon Tournament.

- Started 10-10 from the FT line … only made six of last 15.

- Mocs won the battle on the boards 36-30 to improve to 18-1 when outrebounding their opponent. 

- Mocs held Mercer's Kahlia Lawrence – the 2016 SoCon Player of the Year – to just eight points on 3-12 shooting and 2-2 from the FT line … second straight game the Mocs kept her under 10 points.

- 2007 is the last time the Mocs won the tournament as the No. 2 seed. 

- Only six player saw the floor for UTC … Alicia Payne, Jasmine Joyner and Keiana Gilbert played all 40 minutes.

INDIVIDUAL
Alicia Payne – Sr.-G
- SoCon Tournament MVP.
- 12 points on 2-5 shooting, 2-4 from 3-pt. range and 6-8 from the FT line.
- Tied for team-high with six assists.

Jasmine Joyner – Jr.-F
- 1st All-SoCon Tournament.
- 12 points and a game-high 11 boards.
- Shot 5-11 from the field and 2-6 from the FT line.
- 13th double-double of the year … 24th of her career.

Queen Alford – Jr.-G
- 1st All-SoCon Tournament.
- Team-high 17 points.
- Shot 6-14 from the field, 2-7 from 3-pt. range and 3-6 from the FT line.
- Added six boards.

Keiana Gilbert – So.-G
- 16 points and seven boards.
- Shot 5-9 from the field, 1-1 from 3-pt. range and 5-5 from the FT line.
