MOREHEAD, Ky. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team battled to a double overtime scoreless draw at Morehead State Sunday afternoon. The Mocs are 1-3-1 on the year while the Eagles move to 2-2-1 overall.
Â
"It was a hard-fought game," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "Morehead is physical and this is not an easy place to come and play.
Â
"We defended pretty well for the most part, limiting some of their opportunities. We created more than enough chances to find a way to win it, but we were not clinical enough in the final third of the field."
Â
Two of those chances were called back when the Mocs were called offside, resulting in two goals being called off and a yellow card on the bench.
Â
Chattanooga outshot Morehead State 17-14 with a 5-3 shots on goal advantage. Junior
Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a team-high four shots with one on goal and sophomore
Masey Fox (Greenback, Tenn.) had two shots on goal in three attempts.
Â
Junior
Peyton McCollum (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) had three shots including one off the cross bar in the first half and another in the 79
th minute while freshman
Hannah Torbett (Johnson City, Tenn.) had her shot at the 88:22 mark saved by Morehead State's keeper.
Â
"I think once we settled into the game, we began to find our way," McKinney said. "We are able to get the ball into the areas we want to get it. It's a feeling out process at the beginning."
Â
In the first overtime, the Mocs had a 2-1 shots advantage and freshman
Anna Moore's attempt in the second extra period was blocked.
Â
Chattanooga freshman keeper
Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) made three saves on the day and earned her first collegiate shutout.
Â
"We'll continue to get better as we go forward."
Â
The Mocs will return home to host UT Martin Friday night at 7 p.m. and Radford at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium. Admission is FREE to both games and concessions will be available.
