CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ---
Jordan Mueller picked up her own pass and pushed a shot into an empty net to give Chattanooga 1-0 Southern Conference women's soccer win over Wofford on Senior Day at Finley Stadium on a cloudy Sunday afternoon.
Â
"Pure grit by
Jordan Mueller," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "She is a gritty, tough, hardworking kid and it showed for the goal. She went and pressed for the ball."
Â
Mueller flicked the ball down field off the side of her foot, then turned and raced down the field among the Wofford defense. As one Terrier defender and the keeper met up to get the ball in the corner of the box, Mueller swiped the ball from between them and ran to an empty goal for her fifth of the season, giving the Mocs a 1-0 lead in the 82
nd minute.
Â
The win moves Chattanooga to 5-9-4 overall and 3-4-2 in Southern Conference action. The Mocs finished sixth in the SoCon standings and received a first round bye.
Â
The Mocs outshot Wofford 11-6 with a 4-2 shots on goal advantage. Sophomore keeper
Bailey Coppedge made two saves in her eighth game this season and earned her third shutout of the year.
Catherine Meyer,
Chloe Arnold and
Lauren Dluzewski each had two shots for Chattanooga with Mueller's lone shot good for the score.
Â
Wofford's Catie Slater led the Terriers with two shots with Katie Beuerlein and Erin Wolfe each getting one shot on goal each. Keeper Alex Carroll had three saves.
Â
This is the second straight year, and third overall, that the Mocs have earned the No. 6 seed. Last season UTC tied for fifth but were seeded sixth in a tie-break.
Chattanooga travels to Greensboro, N.C., for a matchup against the No. 3 seeded Spartans on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T). The two teams battled to a double overtime scoreless tie at Finley Stadium two weeks ago.

On Jordan Mueller's goal
Pure grit by
Jordan Mueller, which is the type of kid she is. She is a gritty, tough, hardworking kid and it showed for the goal. She went and pressed for the ball. We'll take it.
Â
On the Mocs offense
We've been getting better and better and the year has went on. We've been saying it to the girls for a month now that eventually it's going to fall for us. We kept pushing on there and we did create some good chances. They created some good chances themselves. At the end of the day we found a way to do it so we're delighted for the team.
Â
On the six Chattanooga seniors
They are a great, great group of kids. We talked this morning at 11:00, we had a team meeting. I think the words that described them were fight and resilience. Those were two common themes that came up when they were talking this morning. I think that's the legacy they are going to leave with the program are their fight and desire to always continue. These kids kind of had an up and down time in regards to results onthe field. We couldn't be happier for them that we're back in the quarterfinal
Â
On the Southern Conference Tournament
As far as we go now, it looks like it may be UNCG on Saturday/Sunday. We set out at the start of the year to get ourselves into a qf game and get a result and go from there. Hopefully we can continue to push on. We can still reach our goals, so we've got to keep pushing on.
