COACH ANDY MEYER'S TAKE ON THE MEET
"The girls performed very well today. We improved upon our placing from last year. We had several stellar performances. Emily PR'd at 21:03 to lead us. Kennedy ran minutes faster than 4 weeks ago on same course. Brianne Nelson, Hannah Caldwell and Haley Morris, Julia Henderson all set PRs and season bests and like Kennedy, Julia was over a minute faster than a month ago. We had an overall higher placing and our 1-5 average was 20 seconds faster than regions last year. The girls definitely ran to their potential.
"The guys matched the girl's effort. Nathan PR'd by 35 seconds to lead us. Ryan Gebelein PR'd by over 2 minutes. John Payne was 11 seconds faster than last year, Mark Britt PR'd by 15 seconds. Richard Guiry was within 8 seconds of his PR after missing the first few weeks of the season with injuries. The men's team without our top 2 returning runners from last year out with injuries and illness, actually improved their overall placing from last year by a spot. The guys ran with a purpose all season long and consistently exceeded expectations.
"Both teams have improved over last season. We made steady gains all season long as evident by our finish today. Of the kids racing today, everyone returns which is a nice situation to be in. This sounds funny but we are very pleased with our effort and season but not happy with our current position. These kids competed hard but we will compete even harder next year."
