Postgame Quotes
Â
Head Coach Jim Foster
On getting the first win of the season
"Well we played better. that's what's important. We worked harder, we were tougher and we shared the ball. We made the extra pass often and it was quality shots. Forty-minute effort, we haven't had that. we had to learn how to do that and some good things happened as a result."
Â
On the biggest difference from the last three games
"Effort, sharing the ball and understand that we don't play bad games. Everybody is a good team. Some are very good and you have to grow from that. Our young players are starting to pick that up. Molly earned her opportunity and there are some young players on this team that are very talented. But they have to earn their opportunity. You don't get handed things. I feel like players on either side of me understand that (
Aryanna Gilbert/ Lakelyn Bouldin) because they figured out how to start as freshman. Lakelyn had been struggling but she started to do some things today that we've been harping on. I think she's the merge of what it was. Aryanna, in the past, if she would have shot an air ball as badly as she shot that air ball today, she would have gone in the tank. But she went out and made things happen. That's both signs of maturity, experience and not being easily defeated."
Â
Aryanna Gilbert, senior
On the interior advantage
"As the game went on we realized that and we talked about looking for the high low. Whenever they went man, some of the coaches told me I had to match and get to the block."
Â
Biggest improvement from first three game to today
"I felt like our defense has carried over from our last game. Rebounding, lack of turnovers, and things like that."
Â
On Molly's [Melton] performance
"Molly is awesome. She dogs the ball and makes it a point to go out there and disrupt the other teams point guard. She did a great job on her today. She's very tough. Coach Foster gave Molly her shot, she came out and showed us what she could do. She hit some shots today as well. I think she's very tough."
Â
Â
Lakelyn Bouldin, sophomore
On her performance
"I have to thank my teammates. They found me. I've not been playing real well, so this was a step to getting better."
Â
On putting emphasis on guards getting the rebounds
"I think as far as this game goes, we'll use this game to work on the things like guards rebounding. Because we need to get more aggressive on the boards to help the post, pick up the intensity and get more aggressive."
