McDanel Leads Mocs over Opening 18 on Kiawah Island

Freshman Maddy McDanel led the Chattanooga Mocs with a 2-over 74 in round one of the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic.

KIAWAH ISLAND---The Chattanooga Mocs opened the second half of the 2016-17 season today with a 17-over par 305 at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic. That puts the Mocs tied for 18th with Georgia Southern. The pair is one behind Bethune-Cookman in 17th and two clear of Stetson and Tennessee Tech which are tied for 20th.
 
Freshman Maddy McDanel had the low score with a 2-over 74. Monica San Juan was one behind her with a 75, while Cristina Perez and Megan Woods tallied 78s for the team total on Osprey Point Golf Club.
 
Jacksonville has the early lead with a 286. Host College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina are second with 289s. JU's Louise Persson and St. John's Saskia Sterud are tied for the individual lead at 68.
 
The Mocs shift to Oak Point Golf Club for Monday's second round paired with College of Charleston and Murray State. Maria Pineiro leads off No. 10 at 9:54 a.m., followed by Perez, Woods, San Juan and McDanel.
 
Scoring
It was the second time this season McDanel shot the low round of the day for the Mocs. The first was a 1-under 71 to open play at the Cougar Classic in October.
