Mocs Drop 2-0 Decision at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Georgia State Sunday afternoon in a match moved up four hours due to possible inclement weather from Hurricane Irma expected later in the day.

The Panthers scored a goal in each half and outshot the Mocs 18-4. Three of Chattanooga's chances came at the start of the second half.

"For the first 15 minutes of each half we were very good," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "At the start of the match we had most of the possessions and were keeping them pinned in. We didn't create many opportunities, but we played very well."

It would be after that 15 that Georgia State broke the seal with Brooke Shank taking a pass from Caitlin Ray for the first goal of the match at the 16:16 mark of the match.

"We conceded a poor goal and it put us on the back foot a bit," McKinney said. "They were better in the back end of the first half. We regrouped at halftime and came out and played well at the start. We were moving the ball around nicely and created some great chances."

The Panthers' Yvonne Ploeg found the net in the 63rd minute with a header off a corner kick by Shank to make it 2-0.

Sophomore keeper Melia Correa made eight saves in the match with seven in the second half. Chattanooga falls to 2-4-2 overall and will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Alabama Friday evening. Georgia State gets its second win of the year, improving to 2-4-1 on the year.
