PAIRINGS
FRANKLIN, Tenn.---It was a solid first day for the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team at the Mason Rudolph Championships. The ladies shot 4-over par 292 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.
That puts the Mocs tied for 10th with Clemson. The duo is three behind South Carolina and Virginia in eighth and a stroke clear of Middle Tennessee in 12th.
Senior
Megan Woods and sophomore
Holly Morgan paced the effort with even-par 72s. Senior
Cristina Perez added a 73, while sophomore
Maddy McDanel ended with a flourish shooting 75. Junior
Monica San Juan had the drop tally with 78.
Woods posted a team-high five birdies for her round. Morgan's card had two birdies and 14 pars leveled by just two bogeys. Perez's day was similar to Morgan's with one fewer birdie and an extra par.
McDanel saved the best for last, literally. Her round ended on the par 5 ninth hole. After playing her second shot just short of the green on the right, the Pittsburgh-area native's chip found the bottom of the cup for an eagle three. That bumped the team score from a tie for 12th with North Carolina over the Blue Raiders into 10th with the Tigers.
Arkansas has a two-shot lead over host Vanderbilt. The Razorbacks' Maria Fassi's 65 not only gave her the individual lead, but it powered her squad's 15-under 273.
The Mocs tee off No. 10 at 9:45 a.m., Eastern time, for round two of three. They're paired with Clemson and Middle Tennessee. San Juan leads off followed by McDanel (9:55), Perez (10:05), Morgan (10:15) and Woods (10:25).
