FRANKLIN, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs are off to a good start in 2017-18. The ladies shot 293 over their second 18 at the Mason Rudolph Championships. That gives the squad a 585 total, 9-over par at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.

That puts the Mocs in 12th. They trail 10th-place North Carolina by three and is one stroke behind Houston in 11th, while sitting six clear of UCF in 13th.

Cristina Perez led the way with a level-par 72. It was the third par or better 18 in eight counting scores for the team this season. Perez is 1 over for the tournament tied for 37th.

She has familiar company at 1 over. Megan Woods and Holly Morgan, who both authored even-par tallies yesterday, followed with 1-over 73s. The trio own 145 totals through 36.

Monica San Juan completed the counting ledger with a 3-over 75. Maddy McDanel's 77 was the drop score. McDanel is 8 over for the event, one ahead of San Juan.

Much like the opening round, the par 5 ninth hole was pivotal to the Mocs finish. It served as the 18th hole again with birdies from Perez, Morgan and Woods following San Juan's on eight. That made up four strokes on the field putting the top 10 squarely in sight.

Arkansas carries a three-shot lead into Sunday's final round. Its 550 is Arizona State in s second and six ahead of Alabama in third. Vanderbilt's Abbey Carlson is the individual leader at 9 under with six student-athletes tied for second at 8 under.

UTC needs to shoot 293 or better to eclipse its best final score at the Mason Rudolph. That's 879 (+15) turned in last year led by Perez tying for 15th at 2 over. She is 1 under over her last 72 holes at the VU Legends Club.

The Mocs join the Cougars and Tar Heels on the 10th tee Sunday at 9:15 a.m., Eastern time, for the final 18. San Juan leads off followed by McDanel (9:25), Morgan (9:35), Woods (9:45) and Perez (9:55).
