BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman
Chloe Arnold scored a second half goal to cut the Bulldogs lead to one goal, but it would be enough as Samford defeated the Mocs 3-1 at the Samford Soccer and Track Stadium Friday night.
Â
UTC is 3-7-2 on the year and 1-2 in Southern Conference action. Samford improves to 7-5-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Â
"We are disappointed with the result," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "Playing the defending league champions at their place is always going to be difficult. That being said, we did have some bright moments within the match. We battled hard and showed some moments of quality. We know that we must find a higher level of consistency to take the next step forward."
Â
Chattanooga cut the Bulldogs lead to just one goal in the 73
rd minute.
Masey Fox put a shot on goal that was deflected back into play and picked up by Arnold. She fired the ball back into the net from 10 yards out to make it a one-goal difference.
Â
That score wouldn't last long as Samford scored a quick goal less than a minute later to make it 3-1.
Â
Keeper
Bailey Coppedge grabbed four saves, two in each half. The Mocs were outshot 17-5, 7-2 on goal. UTC got off just one shot in the opening frame and managed four in the second.
