Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Mercer at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena - Chattanooga, Tenn.
Saturday – Jan. 27, 2018
Jim Foster, Head Coach
Opening statement after loss to Mercer.
"Film will show. We had the opportunity to take some good shots, but we tried to get better shots. We weren't satisfied with the shots we had, and that's something we need to work on. We had a little more productivity out of our center position today. I thought our freshmen played hard and did some good things, and I think they'll help us down the stretch. The mindset was a little but of a surprise. I think the players understand that and will fix it."
On what could have been better.
"We were tentative and not taking what they gave us. We tried to get something better or weren't aggressive when we should have been. Effort was fair. I thought a position or two we were weak. We weren't executing things fundamentally, defensively, that we needed to do. That's been an ongoing dilemma with some. That's why we keep shuffling our lineup."
On matching up against a veteran team in Mercer.
"They were a veteran team that played like a veteran team. Our veterans will be better as we progress. Our young players are starting to figure it out. The objective in this league is to win three games in four days. The tempo and how we approached the game tonight was a surprise. I think a film session will help. They will understand why they hear the things we tell them over and over again."
Aryanna Gilbert, R-Sr.-G
On matching up with Mercer.
"Their ability to hit shots was tough to defend. We weren't hitting shots at the beginning and fell behind. We just tried to get stops and figuring out ways to do that. We wanted to slow down and get the appropriate shots on offense."
On effort levels tonight.
"They gave more effort than us down low. It wasn't our best performance, but I know we will bounce back and get back in the groove of things."
Lakelyn Bouldin, So.-G
On the difference tonight.
"They hit a lot of shots and we weren't getting the stops we needed to get. We have to have the ability to knock down shots no matter what and that's a mindset we need to get better in."
On spurts of good play.
"We played parts of the second quarter in a more competitive style, but just couldn't keep that up for the rest of the game."
