Freshman Esme Hamilton shot a season-low 18 as Chattanooga Mocs turned in the fifth-best afternoon round at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

DALLAS---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is in 10th-place against a strong field at the Trinity Forest Invitational. The squad's 607 is one shot behind North Texas in ninth and six ahead of Dallas Baptist in 11th. The Mocs are 18 strokes clear of Kentucky in 12th.

It was a slow start with an opening 310. Monica San Juan's level-par 72 led the way followed by Esme Hamilton's 77. Maddy McDanel contributed 78 along with Rheagan Hall's 83. Kirsty Beckwith's 84 was the drop score.

They roared back with the fifth-best total of the afternoon 18 firing 297. It was McDanel's turn to shoot even with a 72. Hamilton added 74 closely followed by Hall and Beckwith at 75 and 76, respectively. San Juan dropped a 78.

Illinois holds a seven-shot lead over Tennessee. Individual leader Crystal Wang led the Illini with a 3-under total of 141.

3 NOTES TO KNOW

The level-par 72 is the 18th career par or better card for San Juan. She's now alone in sixth all-time at Chattanooga breaking a tie with former teammate Megan Woods '18.
McDanel's 72 is third par or better 18 this season, fifth of her career.
Hamilton is tied for second among the tourney field in par 3 scoring at -1. Her second round 74 and 36-hole tally of 151 are new season bests.
