Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Saint Louis vs. Chattanooga
John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville, Va.
Saturday - Nov. 24, 2018
Head Coach Katie Burrows
On coming out hot to start the game:
"Our game was to attack them. We came out in the first quarter and we were attacking them hard, and they were fouling us left and right. We started doing that in the second quarter, but we weren't doing it on the reversal.Â
"Moving the ball and getting them off balance before we attack is really the game plan. We weren't moving as well in the second quarter before that attack. Therefore, we were playing right into their hands.Â
"We made that adjustment in the third quarter and of course in the fourth quarter we were able to get a lot of folks some minutes. We gave up way too many points in that fourth quarter, but it was great to get some different folks in there together."Â
On the return of Arianne Whitaker:
"It was good to have Arianne back tonight. Just her strong presence. She did a good job. Of course, she gets tired because she has been off the court a little bit with her injury. She did a really good job coming back this evening for us. I am excited to have her back."Â
On getting the big lead in the game through your defense:
"We did a good job communicating and rotating, but it always helps when we are hitting our shots. Look at Brooke and Lakelyn's stats. They were 7-8 from three and you can't get much better than that. We really shot the ball well, but we moved the ball. We go several back door cuts. They fall asleep after about 20 seconds and if you will just be patient, we can get those better looks."
The maturity of this group:
"They have finally realized that it is not about me, it is about we. They are starting to really understand the unity factor there. Everybody is allowed to be selfish every now and then. When you get so into yourself that you can't put the team first is when there is a problem. These girls to no have that problem. They have done a really good job of supporting one another, whether they are having a good night or not. I have been pleased with them and it has been a really exciting environment on the bench. We enjoy being over there together."Â
On her passion rubbing off on the team:
"I have said this before, I think it is contagious. If I am sitting over there like a big dud, and not doing anything, they will feed off of that and they will be that way. If I am fired up, they will be fired up. I have to keep it in check. I can't get too crazy. There has to be a balance there."
On facing Central Michigan tomorrow:
"I will be honest, they are the best team we will have faced this year. They are so efficient on what they do on both ends of the floor. She really does a great job with them. They are very disciplined. I noticed that she doesn't give them a whole lot of leeway. She is right on them. I feel her on that one. I am that same way.Â
They are very tough and what they do, they are very, very good at. We have to be disciplined tomorrow. They are averaging about 89 points, so we have to do a really good job on the defensive end and then execute on offense."
