Postgame Quotes vs. South Dakota State

Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
South Dakota State at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Tuesday – Dec. 4, 2018

Katie Burrows, Head Coach
Overall statement after 71-54 loss to SDSU.
"Bottom line is that there is a lot of things we have to get better at. Our three-point defense is not so hot, obviously. You can see that to know that and you see it on the stat sheet. Every time they hit one was right when we were chipping away and they were daggers to the heart. I thought we did a good job adjusting. When we play our bigs its not really conducive to our kids so I have to be creative. Overall, it wasn't necessarily on the exchanges, it was on the reversals. We were getting sucked in too deep on the weak side and just couldn't recover. That was a tough thing for us to adjust."

On digging an early hole to start the game.
"We started with four turnovers, very early. We can't do that and be successful. And that's what I keep telling them, we can't dig holes like that and get out of it. It's a frustrating thing standing on the sideline, you feel so helpless. I can sub and pray that helps, and it did at times, we had some players step up tonight. I thought Mya really stepped up tonight and did some really good things. Lakelyn does a lot of good things for us too, she's putting up numbers. I think there's some bright spots. We have to have some folks take some pressure off Lakelyn so she can breathe. We can't get in a hole that big against a team that good."

On mixing up lineups and defense.
"We mixed it up tonight. I wanted to try something different. It was very chaotic and I made a comment that our chaos is their kryptonite. It really was several times. We got out of it because they started hitting shots. At that point, we had to stick to our man-to-man defense. Overall, I thought we were doing a good job in that defense. We just can't have those mental breakdowns. I felt like they capitalized on them every time. On the turnover situation, people are taking advantage of that. We have to get better at that or we won't survive. We need to value the ball."

Lakelyn Bouldin, Jr.-G
On the slow start hindering the entire game.
"I think a lot of things didn't happen. I think it was more than just that. When we cut it to six we have to keep cutting that down and not let them hit a three to extend the lead again."

On what wasn't there on defense.
"We knew that all of them could shoot. We weren't rotating on defense like we were supposed to. We weren't getting high hands and getting out on the shooters. So we just had to make an adjustment. We have to cut down the threes, we have to rotate and we need to communicate on defense."

Mya Long, So.-G
On second half adjustments.
"We were just thinking to attack the basket. We wanted to score and get stops. We need to communicate better and get more stops. When we cut the lead, we can't let them come down and score again. We needed scores and stops."

On resting up with a couple days off.
"I'm pretty sure in between time, we'll take care of our bodies, make sure we eat the right things. We'll get shots up and have individuals on Friday then we'll get back in the gym after that as a team."
