Women’s Golf Ends Up Ninth in Mexico

Cristina Perez paced the Chattanooga Mocs in a ninth-place finish at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational.

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico---The Chattanooga Mocs finished ninth in the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational with a 905 total over 54 holes. The ladies beat host Iowa and Grand Canyon by one with New Mexico State 10 behind the Scenic City quintet.
 
Cristina Perez earned her sixth career top 10 tying for ninth at 221. Monica San Juan tied for 15th shooting 224 with Holly Morgan turning in 229. Megan Woods ended up with 233, while Maddy McDanel carded 238.
 
It was a tough day for the entire field. Only three schools completed the 18 holes in single-digit over par numbers. The Mocs shot 307 behind Perez's 73. San Juan shot 75 with Woods and McDanel rounding out the counting scores with 78 and 81, respectively.
 
No. 16 Arizona swept the team and individual titles. The Wildcats tallied 875 behind medalist Haley Moore's 210. Kennesaw State was a distant second with 892.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
  • Perez played her final 36 holes at E par. She turned in par or better scores on 33 of those 36 chances (91.7%).
  • Perez led the tournament with 44 pars. Most by a Moc this season topping 43 from San Juan in the opener at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championships.
  • The top 10 for Perez is her second this season and the sixth by a Moc this year. San Juan and Woods also have two apiece. Five of the six have come in the spring.
 
NEXT UP
The Mocs are off until April 8-10 at the Brickyard Collegiate, a three-day, 54-hole event played at the Brickyard at Riverside Club. It's the final regular season event before the squad heads to Hilton Head for the Southern Conference Championships.
