The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at Tennessee Tech today. The Mocs won two singles matches in the close loss on the road.
UTC mixed up its doubles lineup and nearly came away with the opening point. Sophomore Simon Bustamane and freshman
Jacob Marshall paired up at No. 1 and pulled out a 6-4 win. The Golden Eagles took the other two doubles by a score of 6-3 to grab the opening point.
Tennessee Tech kept the momentum with wins at No. 6 and No. 1 in straight sets. Junior
Pablo Llebeili put the Mocs on the board with a come-from-behind win at No. 3 (2-6, 6-2, 6-1). That win gave him a 7-7 mark at No. 3 in the spring.
Freshman
Luke Plaisted pulled the Mocs to within 3-2 with a (6-4, 6-3) win at No. 4. That victory evened his spring mark at 9-9, while he improved to 7-6 in the fourth spot.
UTC was in tough battles in each of the last two matches. TTU clinched the team win with a victory at No. 2 and closed out the match with a three-set win at No. 5.
"This match was a battle at every position in doubles and singles," stated head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "I am pleased with everyone's toughness and competitiveness. This match was super close and well-played."
Up next for the Mocs is a trip to Alabama-Huntsville on April 4. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m. (E.D.T.).
