Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Western Carolina at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Thursday – Jan. 31, 2018
Head Coach Katie Burrows
Opening thoughts on the game:
"We took way too many three's tonight, they did a good job of making us take them but we settled and we could have gotten a better look, especially because we were cold from behind the arc. We have got to do a better job of continuing to move the ball and not settling for those shots when we are not hitting.
"We had a lot of people step up, a lot of different people. Brooke was consistent tonight, she distributed the ball well tonight. Arianne came out 6 for 8, I can't remember the last time she did that offensively. We needed that production from our post players. Shelbie stepped up and did a good job for us tonight too. We've gotta do a better job of staying in front of folks and not doing the dribble drive."
What was the difference in the 2nd quarter?
"We were much more patient in the 2nd quarter, they also went a little bit colder— they weren't shooting as well. I thought we got a little trigger happy in the 2nd half, you know I put a couple of people in there in rotation just to see if I could get some good looks and I felt like they were rushed and so we've got to keep reminding them that we are best when we are patient and have got to reverse the ball."
Talking about Arianne and Shelbie:
"They were outnumbered tonight. I told the girls with them having a smaller roster tonight we needed to push tempo, but they did a pretty good job of not allowing fast break points."
Arianne calling for ball:
"She made a couple of good moves and scored and I said guys we have got to ride that horse, get the ball to her, let her go to work. When Air gets in that zone that is a good thing."
Somebody different every night:
"They're competing with each other at practice. If practice is competitive it makes us better, and these girls are getting better in practice and thats the point. When they're able to have success on the floor it gives them more confidence. This year the team is very competitive, but it is a healthy competitive they're also very much good teammates to one another. It's really a fun bunch to be around. I like the surprise. It's fun to watch them develop."
Arianne Whitaker – 4 – Jr.-F
Big night off the bench:
"I enjoy playing my part, and coming off of the bench now I have to be ready to play and get us
into the game."
Â
Calling for the ball
"Once number 32 went out I didn't think there was anybody who could stop me going to the basket, so I took advantage and took my time and it worked out."
Â
How does it feel to be near the top of the league?
"It feels like we are where we need to be but we also need to push and get better, we need to
get better every game and continue to do great and work with each other."
Â
Brooke Burns – 23 – So.-G
Did you feel like you were in control?
"When I play good I feel like I rebound, try to get some assists, get points when we need them
and stuff like that."
Â
On the play in the 2nd quarter:
"I think we pushed the ball and then we made a few shots then, and we turned up the energy
then, which I think gave us a push."
Â
On sharing the ball:
"I think lately one of the reasons we've been winning is because we've been moving the ball,
and pushing it and when we push it and we don't have it then we end up reversing it back
around and it's so much more fun and effective like that."
Â
On the turnaround this season:
"We kind of changed up our starting lineup and we just have chemistry. The games we lost we
weren't starting off well, and so that just changed it around for us. Also people coming off the
bench, doing what they need to be doing and all working together. It wasn't a moment but
changing the starting lineup helped."
