Chattanooga Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga vs. Troy
Chattanooga, Tenn. | The McKenzie Arena

Head Coach Katie Burrows
On the third quarter
"The mentality has to completely shift. We didn't play a stellar first half, but we e did a lot of good things. We certainly executed much better than that third quarter. I don't know what our player's mentality is. We talk about what we're doing well, what we're doing poorly. Where we need to make adjustments.

"Most of the time we're going in at halftime, we're doing ok. We're right there in it. For whatever reason, we come out so relaxed. I don't understand."

On foul trouble of post players
"We're out of position sometimes. I need to go back and look at the film to tell you what it is this game. Sometimes maybe we'll try to help when we're not supposed to. We step up and help and then we don't help the helper and we try to make a play on the tail end of it. I can't give you specifics.

"We've got to do our work early and get good position. I think this game, these girls are very athletic, they're very quick and put their head down and they go. Don't bail them out. Let them throw up a crazy shot and box them out. Limit them to one shot.

"We did a pretty decent job in the first half. We out rebounded them in the first half. We said keys to this were going to be stop them in transition and don't give them multiple opportunities each possession. One and done. We held them to seven offensive rebounds in the first half. They more than tripled that in the second. They had 24 offensive rebounds. We don't have any fight."

What are you going to do going forward
"My responsibility is to continue to put them in tough situations in practice. Keep coaching the fundamental aspects of it. Keep showing them film. Keep trying to give them opportunities to get better and then they have to go out and execute. That's any team. That's what a coach does. Prepare you and then go out and do it. If you're getting out hustled, you can't coach that, you can only sub."

On the play of Liz Wood
"I was really proud of Liz Wood. I really want to give her a shout out. She is a special kid. She may not be the most talented one on the floor, but she was all heart. Everything she could. She finally hit a 3, that's what she does best. She can stroke it. She hit those two free throws. She stepped up in a tough situation and knocked down those free throws. Very proud of her and her effort."

Message to the team
"Afterwards I didn't say a whole lot. I let them talk, specifically the seniors. Because this is their team, their last chance. NaKeia even came back for this. What do you have to say about it? They were very honest, were able to say what they're feeling. The thing is that I don't need to give them a platform to do that. They can do that any time they want to. They have free range. They can speak up any time in practice. I've told them that.

"We don't have that one person who will grab them by the jersey and just really get after them.

"Internally there has to be some kind of fire. Something to come out to get this bunch going. I can't get into the psyche. I've got to keep doing my job, gotta keep coaching them, give them every opportunity in practice and hope that it kicks in. I do see some of the brilliance a lot, in practice, in games. We lack the fight that other teams giving to us. We've got to figure this thing out fast."

Bria Dial – Jr.-G
On conference play being a whole new season:
"I feel like that is going to be a good start for us.  I feel like we need that sense of it being 0-0 and not letting what we have done define us and just moving forward.  We know that conference is coming up and we need to get ready that really.  We can't let what we are doing right now define what we are for the future.

On using two more non-conference games to get ready for the conference season:
"Play defense.  That is our main thing.  Our third quarter is like you said, it is bad.  I feel like that is our problem fright now.  We play so good and we are starting off the game good, we have to keep that going throughout and play all four quarters.  Whenever we go to N.C. State and play Ohio, we are going to have to do that."

On the play in the third quarter
"We became stagnant on offense and we were not looking to get paint-touches and kick out.  We were not playing defense.  We did not come out ready.  Everything that we did in the first half, kind of went out the window."

On improving play coming out of the half:
"
We just have to have a different mentality.  We have to have the mentality that we are going to punch the in the mouth, so to speak, and not come out thinking everything is ok.  We look up and we are down 15."

On graduating yesterday and being at UTC for four years
"Being here has meant a lot to me.  Being able to get my education and do what I love to do and getting to be around these guys.  They are my family.  I care about them and they care about me.  It meant a lot to be able to graduate early and hopefully start a Master's Degree.  The support from all of my teammates and coaches has meant a lot."
