Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Samford at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.

Katie Burrows, Head Coach
Overall thoughts after win over Samford.
"Turnovers, unacceptable. 21 turnovers is unacceptable. We will have to clean that up before Saturday. That's probably the only negative that I will talk about because we held them to 56 points. Our defense really tightened up. In the first half, we were giving up too many back doors and a couple of wide open looks, but once we started to contest each and every shot, it made them have to alter their form a little bit. We gave up six rebounds but we out rebounded them 35-20. We were crashing the boards and giving ourselves second chance opportunities. The biggest factor was that we hit foul shots tonight. How about Pare? She comes in plays nearly 15 minutes and was just solid. Super proud of her, and I know her team mates are as well."
On adjustments to create scoring.
"We quit going into the ball screen action so much because they were doing a great job defending it. We kind of kept our post low just to spread the floor out a little more because they were doing a very good job of packing things in there and they were also doing a very good job of denying the wings, and several of those things were long passes. We just cut out the long passes. If you cant enter it, and you don't have a back door, dribble hand offs are good or you can push them down the corner and we can go into action from there but overall we just spread the floor out a little better which gave us more opportunities to attack the rim.
On the play from Pare Pene off the bench.
"She had a great week of practice and you know to fill Molly's shoes is a tough task because she is just a little general out there. She's not a scorer, but she pushes tempo, she handles the ball, she gets people where they're supposed to be so we just challenged Pare to step up. We've been telling her all season that her opportunity was going to come and it finally did and she was solid. I cant express enough how proud I was of her, when she went in I said if I didn't have confidence in you I wouldn't have put you in there so go in there and play within yourself, don't force things and be solid and she did just that. I'm excited about watching her grow and move forward."
On moving forward.
They might've been a little tight, I don't know. I'm not in their minds, but the good thing is that they gutted it out and got the win. I'm proud of them. We're going to talk about situations with film. Things that might've worked last time, and things that got us in position. The turnovers have simply got to be cleaned up and they know that."
Pare Pene, Fr.-G
On expecting to play season-high minutes.
"No I didn't expect it, but I did think I was going to get in this game because the assistant coaches were telling me to be ready. That's what I was focused on the whole time during the warm ups.
On feeling of being in close, late game situation.
"I just wanted to be confident in myself and my skills, and to really just get my teammates in position. I wanted to put pressure on the ball."
Overall thoughts of increased playing time tonight.
"It was fun. Getting in there and not just sitting and watching from the bench. I learned and picked up on a lot of things. You really have to be focused and always be ready to be engaged in the game. Both on offense and defense."
Lakelyn Bouldin, Jr.-G
On what went right tonight.
"We definitely made some adjustments coming out of halftime. We got burned on some backdoor cuts, I think like three or so in the first half. We tightened up our defense, slowed down our offense and didn't force silly turnovers. That was the key.
On feeling of much needed win after tough road trip.
"We definitely needed this win coming off of a losing streak. That's not us, that's not what we're used to. We just wanted to get back to the winning ways that Chattanooga basketball is known for."
