Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mocs Are 5-2 Winners at Belmont

UTC wins for the fourth match in a row.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team posted a 5-2 win at Belmont.  It was the Mocs fourth victory in a row as they improve to 4-2 overall.

Chattanooga continued its strong doubles play by winning its fifth doubles point in six matches.  Senior Annie Tarwater and freshmen Lilly Holmes won for the second time as the No. 2 tandem this weekend.  Senior Delaney Edwards and sophomore Emma Van Hee capped off the point with a win at No. 1.

Belmont made it interesting in singles by taking the first set in two matches and forcing another one to a third set.  The Bruin tied the score with Peyton Lee's (7-5, 6-1) win over Edwards at No. 3.

Senior Caroline Hall answered with a (6-3, 6-2) win over sarah Brackin at No. 4.  That was followed by a three-set, comeback win at No. 1 by sophomore Bogdana Zaporozhets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Freshman Polina Goloputova was in a tight match at No. 2 as the Bruins tried to climb back in contention.  She won the first set against Erin Allen, but lost the second in a tiebreaker.  She trailed 4-0 in the third before storming back for the [7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5) win.

With the team outcome clinched, Holmes retired at No. 5 due to a nagging injury.  Van Hee went on to score the Mocs fifth point at No. 6.  Hall, Van Hee and Zaporozhets are all on four-match winning streaks.

"I thought we played a really hard-working, tough team,' stated head coach Chad Camper.  "That is a tough away match.  I was really proud of the team and the way they came together.  They kept their composure through good and bad.

"We were young in some spots, but I thought we did a really good job.  Any time we are taking the doubles point it is good momentum.  It was a gritty match and we got better today."

Up next for the Mocs is home match against Carson-Newman on Tuesday, Feb. 19.  Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T) with the potential to be the first at the newly opened UTC Tennis Center.  This will depend on the weather forecast, so be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for an update on location.
